[post_content] => Representatives of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) will address the importance of safeguarding and how it underpins all work with children and families in a presentation to the Society's second symposium on mental health.

Jill McWilliam, Chair of the UKCP's child faculty, and Michèle Bartlett, a child psychotherapist, will highlight the key elements of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, the guidance from government, which sets out how different agencies involved in children's welfare should work together.

They will explore what the guidance means in practice for those working for the health and emotional being of children and young people and families in non-statutory settings, such as homeopaths, where a therapeutic approach and relationship underlies the effectiveness of the work.

Jill said: "We will briefly review key requirements of safeguarding and, using case studies consider the challenges of working across the tension of statute and therapeutic healing pathways, ensuring safety for clients and ourselves."

The theme of the Society's second symposium is young people’s mental health. Other presenters include homeopath and clinical researcher Philippa Fibert and Moira Brown who will discuss how complementary therapies fit into her role as part of a team at the charity Kids Inspire in Essex.

The symposium is on Saturday September 28 at Resource for London. Click here for booking details.
