[post_content] => The role of complementary therapies in helping to support families in crisis is the focus of a talk by Moira Brown at the Society's second mental health symposium in September.

Moira, who works as part of a team in the charity Kids Inspire in Essex which provides early intervention for children and families facing difficulties, will discuss how they use a range of therapies, including family therapy, psychotherapy, drama, play and art therapy and how complementary therapies fit into this picture. She will also highlight successful case studies and discuss how cases are referred to her and how she refers cases on for other interventions.

"The head of the charity is very supportive of what I do," Moira said. "Some funders are very against use of the complementary therapies and this creates a unique situation with some difficulties, so I will be talking about these challenges and the challenges and opportunities moving forwards."

The theme of the symposium is young people's mental health. Other presenters include practising homeopath and psychotherapist Saira Keevill-Thomas, co-principal of South Downs School of Homeopathy, and homeopath and clinical researcher Philippa Fibert.

There will also be a presentation on safeguarding by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

The symposium is on Saturday September 28 at Resource for London. Click here for booking details.
