[post_content] => In November, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills produced a green paper setting out proposals to change the higher education landscape.
The aim of the green paper was to seek views on proposals to introduce a Teaching Excellence Framework that aims to:
deliver better value for money for students, employers and taxpayers
increase access and success in participation for disadvantaged and under-represented groups
create a single gateway for entry and system for providers
establish an office for students which promotes the student interest, ensuring a reduction in regulatory burden.
The Society responded to the consultation by informing the department that as a professional body and register we fully support both the availability of high quality education to all sections of the community, and the importance of student experience and success.
In addition, we supported the proposed single route into the higher education sector, however we did raise that any potential costs associated with increasing both diversity and quality of provision may present a barrier to some of the smaller institutions.
Chief Executive Mark Taylor reported "Overall, we responded to the consultation with a balanced response, which reflected the thoughts and feedback received from our institutions, in the hope that we may help influence future decision-making surrounding the provision of HE education."
