CRD – Centre for Reviews & Dissemination

A department of the University of York and part of the National Institute for Health Research, the CRD undertakes high quality systematic reviews that evaluate the effects of health and social care interventions and the delivery and organisation of health care. www.york.ac.uk/inst/crd

UK Cochrane Centre

One of twelve Cochrane Centres around the world which co-ordinate The Cochrane Collaboration – an international not-for-profit and independent organisation. The collaboration produces and disseminates systematic reviews of healthcare interventions worldwide and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and other studies of interventions. The major product of the collaboration is the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews published quarterly as part of The Cochrane Library. http://uk.cochrane.org/

King’s Fund

An independent charity founded in 1897 that seeks to understand, by undertaking original research, how the health system in England can be improved. National Primary Care Research and Development Centre

A multi-disciplinary, academically independent centre established by the Department of Health in 1995 to undertake a programme of policy related research in primary care. The centre is a collaboration between the universities of Manchester and York. www.npcrdc.ac.uk

Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development

An academic unit at the University of Leeds providing a major international resource for education, research and technical assistance in health and development.The Nuffield Centre aims to develop the capacity of health systems in lower-income countries, particularly in the public sector. www.leeds.ac.uk/nuffield

NIHR – National Institute for Health Research

Commissions and funds NHS and social care research. The NIHR aims to develop the research evidence to support decision making by professionals, policy makers and patients, make this evidence available, and encourage its uptake and use. Their Portfolio Database contains details of ongoing and recently completed research projects funded by, or of interest to, the National Health Service. This database has replaced the National Research Register terminated in December 2007. Scientific and Medical Network

Founded in 1973, The Scientific and Medical Network is an interdisciplinary forum and educational charity exploring the interface of science, medicine and spirituality. It hosts conferences in the UK and Europe and has members in over 30 countries. www.scimednet.org

BHA – British Homeopathic Association

A charity founded in 1902 to promote homeopathy practised by doctors and other healthcare professionals. The BHA believes that homeopathy should be fully integrated into the healthcare system and available as a treatment choice for everyone. ECCH – European Central Council for Homeopaths

Established in 1990 the ECCH is an international council whose membership is made up of 26 established professional associations in 22 EU, EEA and CEE countries. The ECCH aims to encourage the highest standards of professional practise of classical homeopathy in order that they are best able to restore and improve the health of patients.
