Society Conference 2025 - THE WISDOM OF THE CRONES
Menopause and perimenopause - how to help women through this stage in their life
with Dr Marilyn Glenville
Menopause is a natural biological process marking the end of the reproductive years in women and is a critical life stage that can cause a number of symptoms both physical and psychological.
The media exposure about menopause has been helpful in that women are now talking about this stage in their life without it being seen as taboo. The challenge is that it has been suggested that HRT is the only solution for women during this stage.
Marilyn will cover
- what happens at the menopause
- the perimenopause and when it starts
- why some of the menopause symptoms may not be actually related to the menopause
- the consensus from the menopause societies on the use of body and bioidentical hormones, including the conflicting evidence for using HRT for dementia and depression
- the role of phytoestrogens as selective oestrogen receptor modulators (SERMS)
- important nutrients for this transition will be presented as well as tests that are helpful for women to have at this stage in their life.
As women can now live 30 to 50 years past the menopause, it is important that as practitioners we can support them to spend those years enjoying a good quality of life, with most crucially good health.
