[post_content] => At the Society of Homeopaths AGM in April 2023, Christine Lees was awarded an Honorary Fellowship for her work spanning 20 years in the advancement of farmers knowledge of homeopathy.

Originally a teacher, and subsequently studying homeopathy, Christine Lees studied Agriculture in her 50’s.  As part of her agricultural degree, she researched how farmers could use homoeopathy on their farms which she felt was severely lacking in the agricultural field.

This research led to her establishing Homoeopathy at Wellie Level (HAWL) which teaches farmers and smallholders the responsible use of homoeopathy on their farms.

Christine initially started with a small group of homeopaths who helped her to write the syllabus, which she continues to evolve constantly.

Christine has run HAWL for over 20 years, as a volunteer, and has taught over 650 farmers in that time.  The feedback from the farmers has been outstanding, with them reporting reduced vet bills, reduced antibiotic use (and therefore less antibiotics in the food chain) and generally healthier animals which are less susceptible to disease in the first instance.

HAWL is a not-for-profit organisation, and all the monies either made from course fees or through donations, are put back into HAWL to ensure that the course fees are kept as low as possible to farmers – this is something that Christine has always insisted upon.

Christine has made some amazing contacts outside of the homeopathy community with several individuals making significant donations over the years which has enabled her to continue providing HAWL courses as a reasonable and affordable price (something which is even more pertinent today with the cost of living and the stress that farmers are under).

His Majesty, King Charles III, then the Prince of Wales, wrote an endorsement for HAWL after personally meeting with Chris, and it was in part due to his initial donation that Chris could afford to establish HAWL over 20 years ago.  Since then, she has taught in-person courses at the Duchy Farm and other locations, and during the COVID lockdown she altered the course syllabus (but not the overarching content) to provide online courses.

These online courses have been a huge success, and it has enabled HAWL to reach farmers worldwide, with farmers attending from South Africa, USA, Canada, India, and Europe.

HAWL employs one part time member of staff, the Secretary, who handles all the administration, marketing etc, but it is Christine, who works unpaid and always has, who is the driving force behind it, and it is testament to her hard work that homeopathy is now more widely used in the farming and agricultural community. HAWL continues to market and advertise  courses, and it continues to fill both the in-person and online courses.

In 2010 Christine was a finalist for the Farm Advisor of the Year with Farmers Weekly, which one of the farmers who took the course nominated her for.
