[post_content] => Homeopaths are being encouraged to harness patient power to help challenge medical insurers who refuse to cover homeopathy under health insurance schemes.

Recently, a number of insurers and cash plan providers have declined to offer cover for homeopathy for patients. Now the Society has produced a template letter for members to pass on to patients who want to lobby their insurers to change their minds.

"We have received a number of complaints from members whose patients have told them they are being denied cover for homeopathy," said Pamela Stevens, the Society's Marketing Manager. "This is a recent development and one for which there is no rationale. We have produced these materials in order to help members and patients make the case for a rethink to insurance companies." The materials, part of the Society's My Voice package of support for members, include a letter template for patients to send to their insurers, which points out that homeopathy is 'a long-established and effective' therapy, centred on wellness and offers patients 'cost-effective and sustainable' solutions. It also highlights the rigorous training undergone by Society members, the need for them to abide by the Code of Ethics and Practice, and the importance of the Society's accredited status. The body of evidence supporting homeopathy is also cited in the letter. The My Voice support offers a range of materials to help members, including advice on dealing with hostile media coverage, homeopathy and mental health, promotional materials highlighting celebrities and statistics illustrating the global popularity of homeopathy. Members can access them in the members’ area of this website under MySociety/My Voice.
