In February 2021 the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) carried out a thorough review of the effectiveness of the accredited registers programme.

As a leading healthcare organisation representing professional homeopaths, the Society of Homeopaths contributed to the consultation process following 5 years accreditation of their register. The Society register is currently under suspension and the Board and a dedicated working group in consultation with members is undertaking an internal review of the PSA accreditation programme.

The PSA review took place for the first time since the introduction of the accreditation programme and attracted around 90 responses from a range of stakeholders across the UK including NHS bodies, charities representing patients, employers, current and prospective registers, and members of the public.

Following widescale changes in the health and social care systems over the last decade, the PSA has been taking stock to assess if the programme - as it currently operates - is fulfilling its potential and meeting its original aims.

The Accredited Registers programme was set up in 2012 to provide a system of oversight and assurance for people working in health care roles in the UK, and social care in England who do not have to be regulated in order to work.  Today, the programme covers 26 registers, 60 different occupations and over 90,000 practitioners.
