Ann joins the Board of the Society shortly after retiring as Chief Executive of CIOL (Chartered Institute of Linguists), the UK’s professional body for languages which services a global membership and delivers specialist qualifications for translators and interpreters. She has broad ranging experience in leadership and governance across the public sector, government, education and business.
She established the first language development and accreditation strategy for the Metropolitan Police Service, has spent time at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office leading on worldwide language training for the Diplomatic Service and ran and grew a language services start-up at a London University. She spent the early years of her career working in business in Germany.
Ann looks forward to using her experience of having taken CIOL through a comprehensive programme of professionalisation, modernisation and growth to the benefit to the Society and its members.
