HRIIn March 2015, the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) published an Information Paper on homeopathy, which concluded that, ‘there are no health conditions for which there is reliable evidence that homeopathy is effective'.

Despite the multiple serious scientific flaws which undermine the credibility of this report, its findings received widespread attention in the international media.

On 4 August 2016, the AHA, Complementary Medicines Australia (CMA) and the Australian Traditional Medicine Association (ATMS) submitted a combined formal submission of complaint to the Australian Commonwealth Ombudsman.

An investigation has been requested for bias, conflicts of interest, procedural irregularities, sub-standard scientific methods, and undue influence of government processes by vested interests antagonistic to homeopathy.

As HRI raised concerns about the scientific failings of the report with NHMRC formally during public consultation on the draft report, we await the outcome of this Ombudsman challenge with interest.
