[post_content] => Margaret Kincade has given a presentation on homeopathy to the Royal Society of Medicine’s symposium on holistic and complementary approaches to managing long-term pain

Margaret, a member of the Society of Homeopaths' Public Affairs Committee, gave a 15-minute talk on the homeopathic approach with examples of potential remedies and explored how Samuel Hahnemann’s thinking developed into the practice of homeopathy.

Other speakers included Dr Saul Berkovitz from the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine who talked about chronic pain management in an NHS-integrated medicine hospital, while techniques such as traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, clinical hypnosis, yoga therapy, osteopathy and reflexology were also represented.

Attendees were given the opportunity to question speakers throughout the day and Margaret said there was interest in her subject from a range of medics.

“I felt there was a good level of interest and positivity about my talk," she said.

"The RSM Pain section is open to students and professionals from all disciplines who have an interest in pain and its management and on the day the audience included consultants working in a variety of pain clinics as well as GPs and other complementary medicine practitioners."

The organisers were particularly struck by the common theme in the talks of identifying patients’ individual needs and providing for them, she added.

"One oral and maxillofacial surgeon was particularly interested in what I had presented on the remedy Hecla lava and asked for more information.”
