[post_content] => A lobby group in Canada is urging homeopaths worldwide to support its campaign to retain homeopathy in Canadian pharmacies.

The group, the Health Action Network Society (HANS), says skeptic groups are pressuring pharmacy colleges, including the Ontario College of Pharmacists and the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, to discourage sales of homeopathy by their members. It claims that pharmacists in Quebec are also coming under pressure to stop selling homeopathic products with many now displaying disclaimers alongside the products.

HANS has launched a petition highlighting the issue and is urging fellow homeopaths to sign it.

A blog post on the HANS website outlines the legal and regulatory position on homeopathy products and points out that demand for homeopathy in Canada is rising.

"Suppression or obstruction of access to homeopathic medicines is not respectful of the diversity of health traditions of a multicultural Canada," it adds.

Linda Wicks, Chair of the Society of Homeopaths' board of directors, said the HANS campaign was important as it highlighted the need to protect access to homeopathy even in countries with a liberal, open society such as Canada.

“In those parts of the world where homeopathy is under threat, it is vital that people stand up to defend it. Canada has a tradition of welcoming different viewpoints and lifestyles and we hope that lobbying by professional groups and individual homeopaths themselves will enable Canadian pharmacies to continue to offer homeopathy while the demand from patients is there.”
