[post_content] => The European Council of Homeopaths (ECCH) is to hold its annual general meeting in Germany in 2019 at the invitation of VKHD, the German homeopathy association.

The move is seen as signalling the value placed on homeopathy in Germany as well as in Europe in general.

It also follows a positive statement on homeopathy by Prof Frank Montgomery, President of the German Medical Association.

As reported in the ECCH newsletter, Prof Montgomery told Bavarian public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk during a discussion on homeopathy's role in conventional medicine that it was "a fact" that homeopathy helped many people and that it "made sense" as a complementary medicine used "in conjunction with good medical education".

He said the patient's view should also be taken into account.

"Personally, I believe - I am a school physician and a radiologist at a university hospital - that the scientific basis of homeopathy is controversial," he said. "But many areas of medicine we deal with today are such that they are desired by patients."

The ECCH AGM is on June 7-9 2019. The venue will be announced later this year.
