[post_content] => Eurocam has urged EU political leaders to back a wider role for CAM therapies in mainstream healthcare ahead of the elections to the European Parliament.

Its five-page manifesto pinpoints management of infections as a key area where homeopathy and other complementary and alternative medicines could be deployed more effectively to help tackle the mounting problem of resistance to antibiotics.

The document calls on leaders to support:
  • Inclusion of CAM therapies as effective and safe non-antibiotic treatments for infections.
  • Further research investment into non-antibiotic treatment options for infections.
  • Member states in the integration of CAM treatment of infections in primary healthcare.
The document also highlights the role of CAM in non-communicable diseases, reducing healthcare costs and maintaining citizens' freedom of choice in healthcare. "CAM can make a substantial contribution to address these health policy issues as CAM treatments are more adapted to the individual needs of patients and complement conventional medicine to improve treatment outcomes," the manifesto says. "Moreover, CAM modalities can often be used as a first option in treating many conditions, reducing the use of usually costly conventional drugs, which nevertheless would remain for use if required." Eurocam represents European umbrella organisations for patients and practitioners in the CAM field, including the European Central Council of Homeopaths (ECCH). Zofia Dymitr, who speaks for the Society of Homeopaths at ECCH and is also its vice-chair, said that Eurocam and ECCH officials had met representatives of the European United Left  and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe recently to present the Eurocam manifesto. "Key meetings with other European parties will continue after the European elections to promote the role of CAM modalities in contemporary healthcare,"she added. "It's so positive to be working alongside our colleagues in Europe for patient-centred sustainable healthcare."     [post_title] => Eurocam election manifesto calls on leaders to support wider role for CAM in tackling infections [post_excerpt] => [post_status] => publish [comment_status] => open [ping_status] => open [post_password] => [post_name] => eurocam-election-manifesto-calls-on-leaders-to-support-wider-role-for-cam-in-tackling-infections [to_ping] => [pinged] => [post_modified] => 2019-04-29 16:05:38 [post_modified_gmt] => 2019-04-29 15:05:38 [post_content_filtered] => [post_parent] => 0 [guid] => https://homeopathy-soh.org/?p=17261 [menu_order] => 0 [post_type] => post [post_mime_type] => [comment_count] => 0 [filter] => raw )
