Research into homeopathy does not only include clinical trials. Indeed, there are a number of other branches of homeopathy research including veterinary research and basic research.
The term ‘basic science’ means the type of research in which experiments are usually carried out in a laboratory setting using samples of tissues, cells or molecules, rather than through clinical experiments. Developments in this field of research contribute to the evidence base for homeopathy as it can be used to look at the biological activity of homeopathic medicines in isolation or away from confounding factors such as the placebo effect.
